Now on the Wedding Community! Winter Wedding Venue Magic

I’m absolutely thrilled to be The Wedding Community‘s Wedding Venue Expert, sharing advice on how to get some real winter sparkle from your wedding venue. You can read my latest article here!

Every season brings its own magic to a wedding, but at this time of year I can’t help but think of that festive twinkle that makes Christmas and winter weddings so special. One of my lovely colleagues got married in the beautiful The In & Out on St. James’ Square last month and I’m so excited to see the pictures! In the cold weather, thoughts of mulled wine and hot toddies on arrival before the traditional bubbly, the sound of crackling log fires and the possibility of snow gives weddings a truly magical feel.

You just need to find the perfect venue to bring out the winter wonder. Choose the right setting and your wedding will have:

Cosiness and Intimacy

Rich dark wood, soft and sumptuous furnishings, the flicker of candlelight… livery halls and stately homes provide the perfect cosy atmosphere for a warm and wonderful winter wedding. Picture the romance of a Champagne reception in a mahogany panelled room with a roaring fire, luxuriant drapes and all your loved ones around you.

A stately venue in winter is also the perfect setting for an incredible wedding breakfast, allowing you to make the most of guilty-pleasure comfort food in surroundings made for feasting!

Scenery So Spectacular, Who Needs the Outside?

You’ll want to come away with amazing photographs, but you won’t want to freeze your guests, you should look for venues with beautiful indoor scenery – dramatic staircases, fireplaces and other feature pieces which all make great backdrops and can portray the cosy winter atmosphere. Exclusive hire venues with a good variety of spaces are also a great shout, as guests will have plenty to see and no chance of cabin fever setting in.

Venues like the Old Royal Naval College are perfect all year round thanks to ample outdoor space and indoor backdrops so beautiful you just won’t want to leave. Even on the coldest or rainiest winter day you can have a stunning wedding without even noticing the lack of outdoor space.

Seasonal Beauty

It’s easy to forget how beautiful the season can be if you are stuck in your routine, but we’re always amazed when we see our favourite venues in the winter light. Frost patterned windowpanes, bare trees standing dramatically against the sky, perfect sunsets behind beautiful architecture – gorgeous!

Birmingham Botanical Gardens is one of the venues that is truly stunning all year round. Winter brings a different kind of magic to the gardens, and even on the coldest days you can still enjoy the botanical beauty with a reception in a glasshouse.

Something Unique

Many venues have special events for Christmas, and you can reap the benefits when you hire them for your wedding. For instance, you might find a huge and beautifully decorated Christmas tree in situ.  At the very least, most venues will be beautifully decorated if your date is near Christmas, so all you need to do is add the special pieces you want to make your day your own.

A winter wedding is a great choice for budget conscious couples, but there’s plenty more to the most neglected season than just price. For starters, your day will stand apart from the crowd – no one will have “wedding fatigue” and guests are far less likely to be double-booked. If your wedding is close to Christmas then it will have a lovely festive atmosphere and high-spirited guests, and if it’s in the colder months it will be a lovely bright spot and leave you with memories to warm up winter every year.
